Why do we like humor? What is fun in laughing?

People like humor because it makes them laugh and it brightens people's day. Laughing is fun because it just makes you feel a whole lot better about something. Say that you screwed something up or embarrassed yourself, in most cases laughing it off makes the situation a whole lot better. I know that it has worked for me.
